The ASVAB stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. It assesses developed abilities and predicts future academic and occupational success in the military and beyond. It covers four main domains:
- Technical: Auto & Shop Information, Electronics Information, and Mechanical Comprehension
- Verbal: Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension
- Math: Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge
- Science: General Science
The ASVAB is also used by schools in a free career exploration program to help students learn about their abilities and potential careers. The AFQT score (Armed Forces Qualification Test) determines military eligibility, while individual line scores help match test-takers with specific career fields, with higher scores often leading to more opportunities and potential bonuses.
