FAFSA

FAFSA = Free Application for Federal Student Aid and refers to a process which helps determine a student’s eligibility for receiving financial support.

The New England Institute of Technology provides one of the best Q and A sites for understanding the FAFSA process.  Click HERE

STEP 1 = BOTH parent and student must create an FSA ID  (a StudentAid.gov account).   Both parent and student need a Social Security number* and an email account (students, do not use your WCSD Outlook email). *See information below about Social Security numbers.

Click HERE to create an FSA ID account.

STEP 2 =  Complete the FAFSA form. Before you begin, collect the necessary financial documents, such as tax returns, bank statements, and records of investments, for both yourself and any contributing parents or spouses.  Next, go to the official Federal Student Aid website, StudentAid.gov, and select "Log In." Enter your FSA ID username and password.

*Do not have a Social Security number? Parents without a social security number can still complete the FAFSA. If a student does not have a social security number and is unable to complete the FAFSA due to citizenship status, the student will complete a FAFSA Non-Filer. While this means the student is not eligible for federal financial aid—such as Pell Grants or federal student loans—students may still qualify for other types of financial assistance.  Look for the FAFSA Non-Filer form on your institution's website.
